Ephemeral Movements
Ephemeral Movements
By Hannah Mulligan
Danced by Megan O’Donnell and Milly Tidmarsh-Watts
How do can photography contribute to the afterlife of performance ?
How can photography capture liveness?
Ephemeral: lasting a very short time; short-lived; transitory. Being of temporary value or passing interest. Brief, momentary, transient, fleeting, evanescent.
Ephemeral Movements explores our perceptions of ephemerality in relation to live dance and dance photography. This creative experience investigated different creative approaches used by different dance photographers such as Lois Greenfield, Graham Brandon and Nick Fancher. Ephemeral Movements explores creating for the camera, the photo-choreography, the photographer as an observer, capturing motion, shadows, light and colour, drawing with light and exploring how performance can continue to evolve when we can revive movement by choreographing from the photographs taken. Enjoy this interdisciplinary performance installation and find new ways to view dance performance.
