Three Days with Lila Dance UK

June 2022

This week I spent 3 days with Lila during the research and development of their new work ‘Everywhere All at Once’ . If I were to describe the entire experience in three words I think they’d have to be Incredible, inspiring and insightful.

I joined Lila on day 3 of their R&D and spent three days documenting the process through photographs. This was the first time I’d ever been involved in any kind of research and development and it exceeded my expectations. It is important to preface this blog with the fact that the entire Lila team were so incredibly welcoming, lovely and funny. And as a dancer in training it was so encouraging to see a team able to work and create wonderful material in a positive and safe creative environment.

Some staples that are absolutely essential for the Lila team in order to survive the R&D day include :

A very sweaty morning company class

Tea and Coffee breaks before any creation happens!!

A lunch break that includes lengthy conversations about what everyone is eating and will be eating for dinner – a conversation normally initiated by co-artistic director Abi, who is a self-proclaimed foodie.

A second tea and coffee break after lunch.

And a can of Coke to get you through the afternoon(not sponsored)

And you can’t forget a Lila t-shirt – available to buy in the shop today! (also not sponsored

Everywhere all at once, is about the Climate Crisis which is an incredibly important issue and in watching what has been created in the first week of r&d, it will be a touching, moving and thought provoking piece. Yet will be attainable, and accessible to all audiences as Lila always know how to bring light and hope
